Description

These three green stoneware candle holders come as a set, and each one is pierced by open geometric shapes. The tallest has three diamond cut-outs set into a body with broad, flared shoulders; the middle one is a rounded form opened by a single large diamond; the shortest is a slim stem that swells around a circular hole. They stand 13cm, 15cm and 18cm tall, so side by side they make a stepped group rather than a matching row, which is what makes them so easy to arrange well.

Grouped together, they suit a mantelpiece, a sideboard, a console or the middle of a dining table, where the openings frame the wall or window behind them and catch the glow from the flames. None is longer than 10cm or wider than 5.5cm, so all three sit comfortably on a narrow shelf, a windowsill or a small side table. Each takes a single tall, slim candle in the cup at its top, and each stands on its own flared foot, so you can also separate them and place one on a bedside table or a desk. They make a thoughtful housewarming gift, too.

Each holder is 100% stoneware, a dense clay fired hard in the kiln, and each is finished in a glossy reactive glaze. A reactive glaze shifts as it is fired, gathering in hollows and thinning over edges and curves, so the green varies in depth from one piece to the next and a scatter of flecks runs through the surface. No two pieces come out of the kiln quite alike, which suits a group meant to look relaxed rather than uniform. The styling props shown are not included. For the simplest arrangement, pair the three heights with candles of one plain shade and equal length, and let the steps between the holders do the work.
