Vinay Woven Jute Dining Chair - Natural

A dining chair in acacia wood with arms, the seat and the back panel both woven in jute. The back is a rectangular panel set between two uprights and worked in a diamond lattice that reads as a pattern from across a room. The seat is woven tighter and flatter over a square frame. The arms run forward from the back uprights and land on the front legs. The wood is left pale, with the grain showing through.

The seat sits 42cm from the floor and measures 47cm across by 45cm deep, which is dining height and a generous width for one person. Overall it stands 86cm to the top of the back, 53cm across and 58cm deep, and takes up to 100kg. It draws up to a plain wooden dining table. Because it has arms it also stands on its own, at a desk or in a garden room, rather than only in a matched set round a table.

The frame is acacia and the woven panels are jute. Acacia grows quickly and asks little water of the ground it grows in. The jute is worked on to the frame by hand, so the tension and the exact run of the diamonds in the back panel differ from chair to chair. How do I look after it?

Wash the wood in warm soapy water, then rinse and dry it at once, and feed it now and then with an edible oil such as olive or walnut worked in with a dry cloth. Do not soak the jute: wipe it with a dry cloth and spot clean only where it needs it. The tone of the wood will shift over time.
