Description

This is a stoneware storage jar shaped like an upturned hat, with a sleepy rabbit's head for a lid, as though the rabbit has just popped out of a magic trick. The body tapers out to a wide base and is hand painted with multicoloured polka dots, a wavy line and a broad rolled brim, while the rabbit has closed eyes, a small smile and tall upright ears. It is 12.5cm across and 19cm tall, holds 490ml and weighs 0.64KG, so it is a small jar for treats and snacks rather than a pantry canister.

The maker lists the jar as food safe, so it can hold sweets, biscuits, crackers or dried fruit on the kitchen counter or the breakfast table, and the rabbit lid lifts straight off when it is time for a snack. It is made as a children's piece, and it suits a family kitchen, a birthday tea or a playroom shelf where the rabbit is the first thing a child spots. Away from food, it works just as well in a child's bedroom for hair clips, crayons or small treasures, or simply as a cheerful ornament on a nursery shelf.

The jar is 99% stoneware, a dense, hard-wearing ceramic, and the decoration is painted by hand, so expect small differences in the dots and lines from one piece to the next. The other 1% is a silicone band, which you take off before cleaning. The jar is not dishwasher safe, so wash it by hand, and it is not suitable for the microwave or the oven either. For styling, stand it at the centre of a party table or beside a stack of children's plates, where the rabbit's tall ears add a little height and a lot of charm.

No. It is not dishwasher safe, so wash it by hand, taking the silicone band off first as the care note asks.

No. The jar is not suitable for the microwave or the oven, so keep it for storage on the counter, the table or a shelf.

How big is the jar and how much does it hold?

It is 12.5cm across and 19cm tall, holds 490ml and weighs 0.64KG, a small jar sized for treats rather than baking supplies.
