Description

The Vienna is a set of four round coasters in hand-finished antique gold-rimmed glass with a diamond lattice pattern pressed into the surface. Each coaster pairs a mirrored glass top with a cork base, measuring 11cm in diameter and 3cm high including the raised rim.

Designed for use with glassware, mugs and stemware on dining tables, coffee tables and side tables, the coasters protect polished wood, lacquer and veneer surfaces from condensation rings and heat transfer from hot drinks. The cork base grips the table surface without scratching and insulates against heat conducted through the glass top. The raised rim contains spills within the coaster perimeter rather than allowing liquid to run onto the table.

The diamond pattern is created by reverse-printing onto the underside of the glass, so the pattern sits beneath the surface and resists wear from contact with glassware bases. The antique gold finish on the rim is applied by hand, so each coaster shows slight tonal variation in the gold where the finish has been brushed on. The mirrored backing reflects light and the underside of the glass or cup placed on it, giving the coaster a decorative function as well as a protective one.

Each set includes four coasters packaged together. The total weight of the set is 0.3kg. The glass-and-cork construction is suited to indoor use only — the cork base will degrade if exposed to prolonged moisture or outdoor weather.

Can these be used with hot drinks?

Yes. The cork base insulates the table surface from heat conducted through the glass top. They are suitable for use with hot coffee, tea and other drinks served at standard drinking temperatures.

How is the diamond pattern applied?

The pattern is reverse-printed onto the underside of the glass, so it sits beneath the surface. This protects the design from wear when glasses are placed on the coaster.

Are the coasters dishwasher-safe?

No. The cork base and hand-finished antique gold rim are not suited to dishwasher heat and detergent. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry immediately to preserve the finish.

Why does the gold finish vary between coasters?

The antique gold rim is applied by hand, so each coaster shows slight tonal variation where the finish has been brushed on. This is a feature of the artisan finish, not a defect.
