Our Valder table runner is made from 100% jute, braided into thick cords and coiled into rounds that are joined edge to edge. Two large openwork rings sit at the centre, each one a tight spiral circled by a band of looped cord, and a cluster of smaller coils gathers at either end, so the outline is scalloped all the way round rather than straight. It measures 115cm long and 40cm wide, and at 1.404KG it has a reassuring weight for a runner. Jute is a coarse natural fibre with a dry, textured feel, and here it comes in its natural colour.

At 40cm wide it runs down the middle of a kitchen table without covering the whole top, leaving the surface clear on either side, and its 115cm length can sit within a long table or drape over the end of a shorter one. It sits equally well along a sideboard, a hall console or a wide chest of drawers, where the two big rings make an obvious place for a vase or a stack of books.
