Description
The Ukari is a dining chair with a padded leather seat and back rest carried on a frame of slim black iron tube. The two back legs run on past the seat and up to hold the back pad, which floats clear above the seat with an open gap between the two. The seat is stitched across in both directions into four panels; the back pad carries two vertical seams that divide it into three. The leather is smooth rather than grained, an aged black that sits darker in the seams and lighter where the pad is full.
The chair stands 78cm to the top of the back pad, with the seat at 49cm, 40cm across and 37.5cm deep, and the whole chair takes 46cm of width and 52cm of depth on the floor. A 49cm seat is the usual match for a dining table of about 75cm. It takes up to 110kg, and at 5.6kg it lifts with one hand, which matters round a table that gets rearranged. The open gap between seat and back keeps the outline light, so a run of four does not close in a small kitchen the way a solid-backed chair does.
The upholstery is buffalo leather, a by-product of herds kept by local herdsmen, dyed with vegetable extract and tree bark. That dye keeps working, so the colour deepens and enriches with use rather than staying as it arrives. The frame is iron. The Ukari range also runs to counter chairs, and the dining chair is made in aged tan, rich green and chocolate brown.

Frequently Asked
How high is the seat?
49cm, and 40cm across by 37.5cm deep. The chair stands 78cm overall.
What weight does it take?
Up to 110kg.
What is the leather?
Buffalo leather, a by-product, dyed using vegetable extract and tree bark.
Will the colour stay as it arrives?
No. The vegetable dye keeps developing, so the black deepens and enriches with time.
What else is in the range?
Counter chairs, and the same dining chair in aged tan, rich green and chocolate brown.
How do I look after it?
Wipe the leather with a soft dry cloth and keep chemicals and household cleaners off it. To stop the hide drying out and cracking, feed it now and then with a specialist leather product, petroleum jelly or flax oil.
