Description
A kitchen island 145cm long, 75cm deep and 92cm high, built from reclaimed wood. Two drawers sit side by side beneath the top, each with a long iron pull, and below them the frame opens into two full-width shelves. A rail runs along one long side carrying antique brass hooks. The whole piece is finished in a white wash that ties the different boards together while leaving the grain and the old marks in them showing through.
At 92cm it stands at counter height, and the end is left open so two counter chairs can be drawn in, which makes it a work surface on one side and somewhere to sit on the other. The 145cm top leaves room to work beside whatever is already standing on it, and the two shelves underneath take the bowls, boards, pans and crockery that would otherwise be shut in a cupboard. The hooks on the rail keep utensils within reach of the top.
Every board in the island has been taken from Indian ceiling beams, sanded back, cut to size and given the white wash that unifies them, and the rail and hooks are iron. Because each board arrives with its own history, no two islands come out at the same spread of tone. The form is left plain and unadorned, in the manner of an old farmhouse table. The Tivu range began with a butchers block, and this is the larger piece built on the same frame. Counter chairs are not included.

Frequently Asked
How big is it?
145cm long, 75cm deep and 92cm high.
Will counter chairs fit under it?
Yes. The end is left open for two. The chairs themselves are not included.
What storage does it have?
Two drawers under the top, two full-width shelves below them, and a rail of antique brass hooks along one side.
Where does the wood come from?
Indian ceiling beams, reclaimed and cut down for this piece, then finished in a white wash.
How do I look after it?
The wood is sealed. A soft dry cloth lifts dust and moisture, and mild soap and water can be used sparingly, worked along the grain. Use coasters and mats, take up spills straight away, and keep the island out of strong direct sunlight and away from extremes of heat and humidity.
