Description

The Tanit S/43 is a pendant light with a wide, faceted dome of beige cotton thread, wound in fine horizontal lines over a slim frame and hung from a matt black stem and canopy. The shade is 43cm across and 23cm tall, and light filters through the threads so the whole dome glows softly. It uses a 14W integrated LED giving 490 lumens, so there is no bulb to buy or change. Its 2700K colour temperature is a warm white, and a CRI of 90 keeps wood, food and fabrics looking true to colour. It is dimmable (TRIAC), so with a compatible dimmer you can bring it right down for a quieter evening.

We would hang it above a dining table, where it spreads a gentle pool of warm light across the top without crowding the room, or in a living room over a coffee table or a favourite chair. Over a longer table, a pair or a row of them works well. The drop runs from 58cm to 200cm, so it suits a standard ceiling as well as a tall one, with a 47cm stem above the shade. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

It is made from aluminium, iron and cotton: the cotton forms the beige thread shade, and the metal parts are in matt black, which gives a crisp outline against a pale ceiling. The design is by Gonzalo Milà. The light runs on 230V mains and is wired in, so it is a fitting for a qualified electrician to install, and the canopy is a neat 12cm across and 5cm deep on the ceiling.
