Description

This stoneware candle holder looks as if it grew rather than being made. A single sturdy trunk rises from a slightly flared foot and splits into three arms, each ending in a candle socket. The arms sit at different heights, with the centre one tallest and the left one lowest and curving outwards, so the flames step up and down instead of standing in a row. It is 19cm long, 9.5cm wide and 19cm tall, and made of 100% stoneware, a dense, hard-fired ceramic. The blue surface is glossy and deeply textured, pitted and ridged all over, so it catches the light differently from every side.

With three taper candles in place it makes a centrepiece for a dining table. At only 9.5cm wide it fits a narrow mantelpiece, a sideboard or a windowsill where a wider candelabra would crowd the space. It suits anyone who likes a home a little less symmetrical: the branching shape, somewhere between a tree and a cactus, looks playful beside plain glass and straight lines.
