Summer Solstice Reversible Abstract Rug - Sunrise Yellow

The Summer Solstice rug is an indoor/outdoor rug woven from 100% polypropylene, printed with a bold abstract sun pattern that runs across the whole surface. It measures 120 x 170cm, a size that suits a balcony, a patio corner or the middle of a garden seating area without swallowing the space. In the photographs the ground is a warm orange and the sun motifs are picked out in a soft cream, so the two colours carry the whole design between them. Polypropylene is the reason this rug can live outside: the fibre does not absorb water the way natural yarns do, so it sheds a rain shower and dries out rather than staying sodden.

It is made for the space where the house meets the garden. Lay it under a bistro table, along a run of decking, or take it with you, because it is light enough to roll up and carry to a picnic, a camping pitch or the beach. The warm orange and cream sit happily against timber decking and natural materials, and the busy pattern is forgiving of the odd bit of outdoor traffic. It is a rug you can move around a garden as the sun moves, rather than one that has to stay put.

The construction is woven and reversible, so you get two faces to choose from and can flip it over when one side has had a season of use. There is no pile to speak of; it is a flat woven mat, which is what makes it roll down small and shake clean. Because the pattern reads clearly from either side, you can turn it to change the look of a corner without buying anything new. It is a straightforward, portable piece of outdoor colour rather than a fixture, and it earns its place by being easy to pick up and put down.

Can I leave this rug outside in the rain?

Polypropylene does not soak up water the way natural fibres do, and the rug is described as water resistant, so a shower will not ruin it. Let it dry out fully before rolling it away.

Which way up does it go?

Either way. The design is reversible and reads clearly from both faces, so you can flip it over to freshen a corner or when one side has seen more use than the other.

Is it light enough to take to the beach or on a picnic?

Yes. It is a flat woven mat with no heavy pile, so it rolls down small and is easy to carry to a picnic, a campsite or the beach and shake out when you arrive.

What size is it and where does it fit?

It measures 120 x 170cm, which suits a balcony, a patio seating area or a run of decking. It sits well under a small outdoor table without covering the whole area.

How do I keep it clean?

Because the fibre does not absorb water, most outdoor dirt shakes or brushes off, and a flat woven mat like this is easy to lift, shake out and lay back down.
