Description
The Southwold is an 80.5cm oval vase formed from aluminium sheet with a hand-textured surface finish in antique brass. The barrel-shaped profile tapers from a 51cm width at the shoulder to a 25cm depth, giving the piece an oval footprint that sits comfortably in narrow floor spaces, console table corners and alcove displays. The two-way textured surface combines horizontal brushing across the upper half with vertical combing on the lower third, creating a tactile variation that catches light differently depending on viewing angle.
Designed as a decorative floor vase rather than a functional watertight container, the Southwold suits arrangements of dried grasses, pampas, willow branches and faux botanical stems that do not require water. The 4.3kg weight provides stability on bare floors and rugs without needing internal ballast, while remaining light enough to reposition during seasonal styling changes. The oval cross-section allows the vase to be placed against walls or in corners where round vases would project too far into the room.
The antique brass finish is applied over the aluminium base, giving a warm metallic tone with deliberate tonal variation across the surface to mimic aged brass patina. This finish pairs with traditional brass hardware, warm timber furniture and heritage-style interiors, as well as contemporary schemes using brass accents. The hand-texturing means each vase carries slight surface variation where the artisan's tools have worked the metal, so no two pieces show identical patterning when viewed in direct light.

Frequently Asked
Is the vase watertight?
No. The Southwold is designed for decorative use with dried stems, pampas grass, willow branches and artificial botanicals. It is not watertight and should not be filled with water or used for fresh-cut flowers.
What size stems does it suit?
At 80.5cm tall, the vase accommodates stems up to approximately 150cm total height when placed on the floor. Dried pampas plumes, tall grasses and willow branches work well. The oval opening measures 51cm at its widest point, giving enough aperture for multi-stem arrangements.
How is the finish maintained?
Wipe with a dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. The antique brass finish is designed to show tonal variation and patina, so avoid polishing or using metal cleaners that would remove the aged effect. For stubborn marks, use a barely-damp cloth and dry immediately.
Is a larger size available?
Yes. Libra produces the Southwold in both 80cm and 100cm heights. Search for 'Southwold 100cm' at Niori to find the taller variant if in stock.
