Description

This is a stoneware candle holder in grey, shaped like a small gourd: a narrow neck swells into a full, rounded body. A row of small loops runs down one side from the neck to the base. A bubbled glaze pools around the top and runs down the body in drips, with the rough, grainy clay showing between them. It stands 15.5cm tall and 10.5cm across, a compact size that sits comfortably on a mantelpiece, a windowsill or the middle of a table without crowding the space around it.

It holds a taper candle upright in its neck, which makes it an easy way to bring a single flame to a dining table, a sideboard or a bedside table. Because it is small, it works on its own on a narrow shelf, and it looks just as good grouped with other candle holders along a mantelpiece, where the loops and drips catch the glow of the flame.
