The Softie is a quilted cushion built around a raised grid. Sand-coloured squares sit proud of a chocolate lattice, so the front reads as much by touch as by sight: a soft, padded check you can run your hand across. It measures 40 by 60cm, the classic bolster proportion that sits longer than it is tall, and it is made from 100% polyester through and through. The reverse is a plain chocolate, giving you two different faces from a single cushion.

A 40 by 60cm rectangle is the cushion you reach for when a row of squares looks too uniform. It props well against the arm of a sofa, sits comfortably at the small of your back in an armchair, or lies across the head of a bed as the front rank in a layered arrangement. The two-tone brown palette is easy to place against cream, oatmeal and warmer neutral upholstery, and the plush surface adds a note of texture where a flat-woven cushion would recede. Turn it to the plain side when you want the check to rest.

The fibre takes a deep, soft pile and holds the quilted relief without flattening, and it is hard-wearing and quick to recover its shape after a good squash.
