Description

The Sita is a coffee table 120cm wide, 65cm deep and 45cm high, with a top of reclaimed wood on a base of solid hammered iron. The wood is reclaimed ceiling timber and is finished in a deep brown that brings up the grain and the marks the boards already carried. The iron is matt black and the legs taper towards the floor.

At 120 by 65cm the top takes a tray, a stack of books and a lamp with room left between them, and at 45cm high the surface stays within reach from a seat. It weighs 46.3kg, so it stays where it is put. Strong direct sunlight fades the finish and large swings of heat and humidity can crack the wood, which makes a spot away from a radiator and out of a south-facing window the better one.

Every piece of wood in the top is reclaimed and cut to size, so the grain, the tone and the old marks differ from one table to the next. The base is solid iron, hammered and shaped by hand, and the whole piece is assembled by hand. The Sita range also runs to a side table.
