Description
Satellite Silver is a wall mirror 150cm high by 100cm wide, built around two black lacquered glass ellipses set into the silvered face as an engraved path, with four half spheres held along it as though caught mid orbit. The spheres are finished by hand in silver metal leaf, which is what separates this version from the one with black lacquered spheres; against the dark ellipses they read as the moving part of the composition. The design is by Kiki Goti.
It hangs in two directions, and turning it swings the whole orbit through ninety degrees, which changes the piece more than rotating a plain mirror would. Give it a wall it can hold alone rather than a group, and stand back from it: the engraved path and the spheres resolve at a few paces and crowd at close range. At 20kg it is a comfortable two person lift and it stands 5.5cm off the wall, so the spheres throw shadows that are part of the effect. Two screws, washers and plugs are supplied with nothing to assemble. It is not rated for bathroom use, so keep it to dry rooms.
The mirror is mirrored and black lacquered glass with an engraved line, on a wooden support, with semispheres finished in hand applied silver leaf. Clean the glass with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth and work around the spheres rather than over them, since the leaf is thin and does not want solvent. The spheres sit on raised moulded tracks that run beside the engraved path, so they read as held in place rather than resting loose on the glass. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.

Frequently Asked
What are the spheres finished in?
Silver metal leaf, applied by hand. The same design is also made with black lacquered spheres.
What are the black shapes?
Two ellipses in black lacquered glass, set into the mirrored face as an engraved path.
How many directions does it hang in?
Two, so the orbit can run upright or across.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
No. It is not rated for bathroom use, so keep it to dry rooms.
How should the spheres be cleaned?
Dust them dry and keep cleaner off them. The leaf is thin and solvent will mark it.
