Description

This gravy boat is made from stoneware and finished in a blue reactive glaze, with a long pouring spout at one end and a looped handle at the other. It holds 340ml, a comfortable amount of gravy or sauce for a Sunday roast with the family. It measures 20cm long, 8cm wide and 10.5cm tall, so it sits easily among the serving dishes without crowding the plates. At 0.383KG it is light to lift and pour.

It belongs on the dining table first: gravy with a roast, bread sauce at Christmas, cheese sauce over cauliflower. It earns its keep beyond the roast too, holding cream or custard for a crumble, dressing for a salad, or warm syrup for pancakes at a weekend breakfast. Because it can go in the microwave, you can warm a sauce in it and take it straight to the table. Because it can go in the oven, you can warm the empty boat before you fill it. Stoneware holds heat well, which suits a sauce that should arrive hot.
