Description

Rubi is a modern wall light built from two simple shapes: a matt black cone shade lined in gold, set against a black half-disc back plate. The cone opens upward and sits at an angle over the flat edge of the disc, so the fitting reads as a piece of geometry on the wall even when it is switched off. It is made from an iron structure with opal glass, and the finish is matt black and gold. It stands 50cm tall and 25.5cm wide, and projects 20cm from the wall, with a 20cm cone shade.

This is a wall light for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, landings and dining rooms, anywhere a bare stretch of wall wants a focal point. At 50cm tall it has enough presence to hold a wall above a console table, a sideboard or a bed, and we think a pair either side of a fireplace or a doorway works well. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. It runs on 220-240V mains, and as a mains fitting it is for a qualified electrician to install. Its lamp cap is G9, and the recommended lamp type is G9 LED.

The structure is iron, finished in matt black, and the inside of the cone is gold, so the lining picks up the light and gives it a warm cast against the black. Opal glass softens the light, so the glow from the cone is even rather than sharp. It carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, we like it set a little above eye level, where the gold interior is easy to see, with a plain wall behind it: a pale plaster or a soft neutral paint lets the black disc and cone stand out clearly.
