Description

Our Rose downlight is a slim cylinder in matt polished brass, recessed into the ceiling so that only its neat trim and the tube itself show. It takes one GU10 lamp and sends its light downwards from the open lower end of the cylinder. It comes in three sizes, 16cm, 25cm and 40cm. The 16cm size has a cylindrical shade 16cm tall and 4cm across; the 25cm size has a shade 25cm tall and 4cm across; and the 40cm size has a shade 40cm tall and 4cm across. All three sit in a 5cm trim.

Rated IP20, it is for dry rooms indoors: a hallway or landing, a living room, a bedroom, a study. A single downlight gives a quiet point of light over a chair or a side table, while a line of them leads the eye along a corridor. Mixing the three lengths in one ceiling, the 40cm beside the 25cm and the 16cm, makes a stepped group of brass tubes at different heights that works well over a dining table or in a stairwell where the ceiling is high. Its plain, modern shape suits contemporary rooms and pared-back schemes, and the soft brass keeps it warm rather than stark.

The structure is iron, finished in matt polished brass for a soft, low sheen rather than a mirror shine. It is fixed into a cut-out in the ceiling, held by spring clips behind the 5cm trim, with the cylinder dropping beneath. It runs on 220-240V mains and works from an ordinary on-off switch, and as a mains fitting it is for a qualified electrician to install. It carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, set it against pale walls so the brass reads clearly, or pick up the colour with brass handles, frames or a mirror nearby; in a group, keep the spacing even and let the different lengths do the work.
