Description

Roi is a small, modern light with a ribbed glass shade and a slim round base. The shade is transparent fumé glass, a rounded dome ribbed all the way round, so the light runs through fine ridges and leaves a soft play of highlights across the surface. It sits on a brass base finished in black. The shade is 12cm across and 8.5cm tall, and the base is 10cm across and 2cm high, which keeps the whole light compact. It fixes flush to a ceiling or to a wall, with no stem. Inside is one G9 lamp holder, and the recommended lamp is a G9 LED.

Because it sits close to the surface, Roi suits places where a pendant would hang in the way: a hallway or landing with a low ceiling, a narrow corridor, a walk-in wardrobe, or a bedroom wall beside the bed. Its small size means it rarely overwhelms a room, so it works well in multiples, a row along a corridor or a pair either side of a hallway mirror or a doorway. It has a modern look that sits as comfortably in a new build as in an older house with plain painted walls. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The base is brass, finished in black, and the shade is glass; the ribbing gives the glass texture whether the light is on or off. It runs on 220-240V mains, so it is for a qualified electrician to install, and it carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, we would pair the black base with matt black switches, dark picture frames and black door furniture, while the fumé glass sits easily beside oak, walnut and aged brass. On a pale wall the ribbed dome reads clearly as a shape even in daylight, so it earns its place before it is switched on.
