Our Rio wall light is a single red dome hung from a short, straight arm that runs out from a round wall plate. It is a modern wall light pared back to three simple shapes: the disc against the wall, the slim rod, and the rounded dome shade beneath it, open at the base. From the side the shade curves fully over the top and falls to straight sides, so it reads almost like a bell. The whole fitting is finished in red, arm and plate included, so nothing interrupts the colour. It comes in three sizes, 9cm, 12cm and 16cm, so you can choose the scale that suits your wall.

Because the shade stands out from the wall on its arm, this is a light for places where you want a point of colour as much as a glow. A pair either side of a bed works well, as does one beside a reading chair, above a console table in a hallway or at intervals along a landing. In a pale room the red gives a warm spot of colour; against a deeper wall it settles in more quietly. The plain, modern shape sits comfortably in contemporary schemes and looks just as at home in a Scandinavian or mid-century room, where simple geometry and strong colour are welcome.

The structure is iron, and the red finish runs over every part, from the edge of the round plate to the rim of the shade.
