Description

Rio is a wall light that behaves like a pendant. A slim iron bracket fixes to the wall, a long horizontal arm reaches out from it, and from the far end a textile cable drops to a single dome shade, so the shade hangs out in the room, away from the wall, without needing a ceiling point. The whole fitting stands 46cm tall, and the dome shade itself is 15cm tall and 16cm across, a neat, rounded form that sends the light downwards. It is finished in matt white and takes one GX53 lamp. It is a simple, useful piece of lighting that does two jobs at once.

We think its clean, modern lines have a Scandinavian calm, so it suits a living room, a bedroom or a dining room equally well. Set it beside a sofa or an armchair to drop a pool of light over a reading corner, either side of a bed in place of bedside lamps, or above a sideboard or a console table. It works well in cafés, restaurants and hotel rooms too, wherever a hanging light is wanted but the ceiling is out of reach. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The structure is iron, finished in matt white, and the shade hangs on a textile cable. It is a switched fitting, on and off rather than dimmable, so there is no dimmer to match. It runs on 220 to 240 volts and, as a mains fitting, is for a qualified electrician to install. It carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, the white finish keeps the arm quiet against a pale wall, letting the dome read as a soft shape in the room; we like a pair, one each side of a bed or a mirror, for a balanced look.
