Description
The Rio is a linear chandelier: a long straight bar in red, with three dome shades hanging beneath it in an even row. Each rounded dome sits close under the bar and sends its light downwards, so three pools of light line up along whatever sits below. The structure is iron, finished in red, and the fitting hangs from the ceiling on two fine wires, with a 2m textile cable carrying the power. It takes three GX53 lamps, one in each shade. The lamps are not included, so you will need three GX53 lamps to go with it.
Because the light falls in a line, it suits a long surface: a dining table, a sideboard, a long desk in a study or a console in a hallway. Over a dining table, the three domes spread the light evenly from one end to the other rather than gathering it in the middle, so everyone at the table sits in good light. The simple shapes and the red colour sit easily in modern and Scandinavian rooms, alongside pale wood, white walls and plain furniture. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only, such as dining rooms, living rooms, studies and hallways.
It is a switched fitting, simply on or off rather than dimmable, so it gives the same steady light each time and needs no dimmer. The bar and the shades share the same red finish, and the textile cable keeps the look soft. It runs on a 220 to 240V mains supply and, as a mains fitting, it is for a qualified electrician to install. It carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, we like it centred over the table with the bar running along the table's length. The red works well against greys, creams and natural oak, or as the one bold colour in an otherwise calm room.
