Description

The Rio 9 is a circular chandelier in green: a slim iron ring 79cm across and only 9.5cm tall, with small dome shades set around it and opening downward. Each shade is 9cm across, so the light comes from many small points spread over a wide circle rather than from one bright centre. The fitting has GX53 lamp holders. It runs from an ordinary on-off switch rather than a dimmer, so a standard wall switch is all it needs, and it works on 220-240V mains.

At 79cm across, it is made for a big table or the middle of a generous room. We like it over a long or round dining table, above the seating in an open-plan living room, or on a wide landing where a single pendant would look lost. Because the ring is so shallow, it spreads light across the room without a tall body hanging into the space. The green suits a modern or Scandinavian scheme, alongside pale timber, white walls and linen. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The structure is iron, and power comes down a 2m black textile cable, with fine suspension wires holding the ring level beneath a 14cm canopy.
