Description
Ray Black S is a round wall mirror 65cm across with a ring of flat discs set on edge around the rim, each overlapping the next like a row of coins laid down and pushed over. They sit slightly proud of the glass, so they appear in the reflection as well as around it and the ring seems to carry on inside the mirror. From directly in front the discs foreshorten and the ring reads as fine rays rather than as circles, which is where the name comes from. The design is by Jeffrey Huyghe.
At 65cm this is the smaller of the two sizes, which puts it where a metre mirror will not go: a cloakroom, the wall beside a door, or a pair with the larger one. It is rated bathroom proof. It hangs from two screws in one direction. At 5kg it is light enough to hang alone, and it is 5cm deep, that depth being the discs rather than the glass, so allow for it beside a door frame or an architrave. Two screws, washers and plugs are supplied with nothing to assemble. The same design is made in a 105cm size and with the discs finished in gold.
The mirror is mirrored glass in a powder coated metal frame, the powder coat being a hard baked finish rather than a paint layer. Clean the glass with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth and work around the discs rather than over them, taking the cloth along the rim rather than across it. Because the discs stand on edge they hold less dust than a flat rim would, but the gaps between them repay a dry brush. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.

Frequently Asked
What are the discs?
Flat discs set on edge around the rim, each overlapping the next, standing slightly proud of the glass.
Why does it look like rays rather than circles?
From directly in front the discs foreshorten, so the ring reads as fine lines. Step to the side and they resolve as overlapping circles.
How deep is it?
5cm, and that depth is the discs rather than the glass, so allow for it beside a door frame.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
Yes. It is rated bathroom proof, so steam and humidity are not a problem.
What other versions are made?
A 105cm size, and the same design with the discs finished in gold.
