Description

The Ralph is a big, woven outdoor pendant light, built to hang outside as readily as it hangs indoors. Its shade is 90cm across and 61cm tall, a broad, tapering form that swells towards the bottom and draws in towards the top, finished in Metallic Brown. The weave is open enough for the light to pass through, so when it is lit the whole shade glows and the pattern of the weave reads clearly against a dark evening. It is a single-light pendant on a slim cable.

With an IP65 rating, the Ralph suits outdoor use, so it can hang over a table on a terrace, beneath a pergola or above a seating area in the garden, and it is just as much at home over a dining table or in a living room indoors. At 90cm across it fills a large space comfortably and works best where it has room around it: a long table, a generous sofa arrangement or a room with a high ceiling. It plugs in rather than being wired in, which makes it a practical choice where there is no lighting point overhead.

The weave is regular and even all the way round, and the Metallic Brown finish has a soft sheen that catches the light. The Ralph runs at 230V and is a Class II fitting, so it needs no earth connection, and it hangs from a neat canopy 10.5cm across, small enough to sit discreetly on a ceiling or the underside of a pergola. One thing to plan for: it takes one E27 bulb, which is sold separately and is not in the box, and the bulb is what gives the light, so choose its brightness and colour to suit the space. A warm white bulb sits well with the brown weave for evenings outdoors. It has a plug on its cable, and we include a UK adaptor in the box, so it is ready for a UK socket. Outdoors, the plug and the adaptor must sit in a covered, weatherproof outdoor socket.
