Description

The PowerMaster 4ft 42W LED emergency batten delivers 4800 lumens at 4000K cool white through an integrated LED module housed in an IP65-rated polycarbonate enclosure with stainless steel fixing clips. The fitting includes a built-in emergency battery system that provides automatic backup lighting during mains power failure, making it suitable for corridors, stairwells, warehouses and industrial areas requiring both primary illumination and emergency exit lighting compliance.

Designed for surface mounting on ceilings or walls, the batten measures approximately 1200mm in length and projects 100mm from the mounting surface when fitted. The IP65 weatherproof rating protects against dust ingress and water jets from any direction, allowing installation in damp or outdoor covered locations including loading bays, car parks, storage facilities and external walkways. The 120-degree beam angle provides wide flood coverage suitable for corridors 2-3m wide or open plan areas when multiple fittings are spaced at 3-4m intervals.

The emergency function automatically activates when mains power is interrupted, drawing from an internal rechargeable battery to maintain illumination for the duration specified in the installation manual. When mains power is restored the battery recharges automatically. The non-corrosive finish (NCF) coating on the housing resists rust and corrosion in humid or coastal environments, extending the fitting's working life in challenging industrial conditions. Stainless steel mounting clips resist corrosion better than zinc-plated or plastic alternatives.

How long does the emergency backup last?

The duration of emergency backup lighting depends on the battery capacity fitted. Most commercial emergency battens provide 3 hours of reduced-output emergency lighting, but check the installation manual or contact us to confirm the specification for this model.

Can this be installed outdoors?

Yes. The IP65 rating protects against water jets and dust ingress, making it suitable for covered outdoor locations such as canopies, loading bays and external walkways. Avoid prolonged direct exposure to rain or UV unless the fitting is mounted under a shelter.

Is the batten suitable for bathrooms?

The specification states suitability for zones 1-3, which covers most bathroom locations except directly inside a shower enclosure (zone 0). It can be ceiling-mounted above a bath or shower tray (zone 1 or 2) where splash protection is required.

Does it need a qualified electrician to install?

Yes. Mains-powered emergency lighting with battery backup must be installed and tested by a qualified electrician to comply with UK wiring regulations and emergency lighting standards (BS 5266). The fitting requires connection to a permanent mains supply for the LED and battery charging circuit.
