Description
The PowerMaster 17.5W LED emergency bulkhead gear tray combines integrated LED illumination, microwave motion sensing and switchable colour temperature in a circular 243mm aluminium PCB module designed to retrofit or replace conventional ceiling bulkhead fittings. The tray outputs 1725 lumens at 17.5W with a 120° beam angle, providing 105-135 lumens per watt depending on the selected colour temperature. A small switch on the tray lets the installer select 3000K warm white, 4000K cool white or 6500K daylight before final installation.
Designed for commercial, industrial and high-traffic residential applications needing ceiling-mount emergency lighting with motion control, the tray fits inside compatible bulkhead housings or can be mounted directly to a ceiling surface where a low-profile fitting is required. The integrated microwave sensor detects movement through non-metallic ceiling materials, switching the LEDs to full output when motion is detected and dimming or switching off after a preset timeout. Emergency mode provides maintained illumination during mains power failure, meeting UK emergency lighting regulations for corridors, stairwells, exit routes and communal areas.
The aluminium PCB base acts as a heat sink, keeping LED junction temperatures within operating limits across an ambient range of -10°C to +40°C. The isolated driver eliminates visible flicker and provides mains isolation between the 220-240V AC input and the low-voltage LED array. Installation uses a quick-fit push terminal (3-way or 4-way depending on emergency wiring configuration), eliminating screw terminals and reducing fitting time. The IP20 rating limits use to Zone 3 bathroom areas and dry indoor locations. CRI >80 ensures colour rendering suitable for general commercial and workspace applications.

Frequently Asked
How does the CCT adjustment work?
A small switch on the tray allows the installer to select one of three colour temperatures before installation: 3000K warm white, 4000K cool white, or 6500K daylight. Once the tray is fitted and powered, the colour temperature is fixed to the selected setting and cannot be changed without removing the tray to access the switch again.
What triggers the microwave sensor?
The integrated microwave sensor detects movement within its detection zone, switching the LEDs to full output when motion is detected. The sensor works through non-metallic ceiling materials, so the tray can be mounted inside a bulkhead housing. Detection range and timeout duration depend on the sensor specification.
What does emergency function mean?
Emergency mode provides maintained illumination during mains power failure, powered by an internal battery or external emergency pack depending on the wiring configuration. This meets UK regulations for emergency lighting in exit routes, corridors and communal areas where safe egress must be maintained during a power cut.
Can this be used in bathrooms?
The IP20 rating limits use to Zone 3 bathroom areas only (areas more than 600mm from a bath or shower basin, outside the direct spray zones). It cannot be used in Zones 0, 1 or 2 where higher IP ratings are required.
