Description
Our Porir bench is a plain, sturdy wooden bench in blue, built from 98% reclaimed wood with the remaining 2% in iron. It is 100cm long, 35cm wide and 45cm tall, so it sits at a usual seat height while staying short enough for a hallway or the end of a bed. The seat is a thick plank top laid over two A-shaped trestle legs, each braced with a cross bar near the floor. The maker rates it to a maximum load of 250KG, and at 13.7KG it feels solid while still light enough to carry from room to room.
In a hallway it gives you somewhere to sit while you pull on boots, with room beneath for a basket or a pair of shoes. At the foot of a bed it holds folded blankets or the next morning's clothes, and in a living room or by a window it works as a low stand for plants, a stack of books or a vase. The blue paint brings a clear note of colour to plain walls and pale floors, and it sits as comfortably in a cottage hallway as in a modern flat.
The wood is finished in paint, and the grain and knots of the reclaimed timber still show through, so the surface has texture rather than a flat, uniform coat. Reclaimed wood has already lived one life, and no two lengths of it are quite alike, so the marks in your bench will be its own. Bolt heads sit where each leg meets the block under the seat, a plain detail that suits the simple build. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. For styling, keep it uncluttered: a single plant and a few books at one end leave the rest free to sit on. The styling props shown are not included.

Frequently Asked
How big is the Porir bench?
It is 100cm long, 35cm wide and 45cm tall, a usual seat height that suits a hallway, a bedroom or a living room.
How much weight can the bench take?
The maker gives a maximum load of 250KG. The bench itself weighs 13.7KG, so it is easy to move when you rearrange a room.
What is the bench made of?
It is 98% reclaimed wood and 2% iron, with a painted blue finish that lets the grain and knots of the timber show through.
Are there assembly instructions?
Yes. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download, so you can read through them before your bench arrives.
Will every bench look exactly the same?
Not quite. Reclaimed wood carries its own grain and knots, and they show through the painted finish, so each bench has its own marks.
Is it only for sitting on?
No. It works just as well as a low stand for plants and books in a living room, or at the foot of a bed for folded blankets.
