Description

This small stoneware jar comes with its own lid and an acacia spoon. It holds 200ml and measures 7.5cm across and 6cm tall: a sugar bowl or salt jar size rather than a storage canister, and small enough to sit beside the kettle or the hob without taking over. The body is straight-sided and a little wider than it is tall, which keeps it steady on a busy counter or a breakfast tray. The green is a reactive glaze, flecked and speckled across the surface, with a darker line where the glaze thins at the rim and around the lid.

We like it most as a sugar jar on the tea tray, with the spoon left in and ready for the next cup. It works just as well beside the cooker for flaky sea salt, on the breakfast table for jam or honey, or at dinner with a spice blend or chopped herbs for people to add as they please. The lid keeps whatever is inside covered between uses. It suits a compact kitchen where every bit of worktop counts, a coffee corner at home, or anyone who would rather serve sugar from a jar than from the packet.

The jar and its lid are stoneware, a clay fired at high temperature that comes out dense and hard-wearing, and the whole piece weighs 0.226KG. A reactive glaze shifts as it fires, so no two jars leave the kiln exactly alike: expect the flecks and the depth of green to vary a little from one to the next. The spoon is acacia, a close-grained hardwood, and its handle rests out from under the lid so it stays in the jar. For styling, stand it on a wooden board beside a teapot and a pair of cups, where the glaze and the warm wood of the spoon pick each other up.

Frequently Asked

How much does the jar hold?

It holds 200ml, which makes it a sugar bowl or salt jar size: right for one ingredient you use every day rather than for bulk storage.

Is the spoon included?

Yes. The jar comes with its lid and an acacia spoon, and the spoon's handle rests out from under the lid so it can stay in the jar.

What is it made of?

The jar and lid are stoneware finished in a green reactive glaze, and the little spoon that comes with it is acacia wood.

How big is it?

It is 7.5cm across and 6cm tall and weighs 0.226KG, so it sits neatly beside a kettle, on a tray or on a narrow shelf.

Can I keep food in it?

Yes. The maker lists it for food use, so sugar, salt, honey, jam or a spice blend all suit it, kept covered by the lid between uses.

Will my jar look exactly the same as another one?

Not exactly. A reactive glaze changes as it fires, so the flecks and the depth of green vary a little from one jar to the next.
