Description

A set of two ceramic egg cups, each 5.2cm tall and 5.2cm across. The bowl flares out from a short pedestal stem on a round foot. Over a cream glaze each one is painted by hand with broad vertical bands in a soft clay wash and narrow columns of small rust-coloured dots between them, the colour pooling darker where a stroke begins. The brushwork starts and stops at different points on each cup, so the two in a set do not match.

These are breakfast-table pieces and they are small, 5.2cm each way. Each takes a boiled egg with most of the shell clear of the rim. Two in a set lays two places at once, and the footed stem lifts the egg above the surface of the plate.

The cups are ceramic and the painting is done by hand, one cup at a time. Only a handful of makers work to this level of detail. The Patthar range covers a full table: dinner plate, side plate, cereal bowl, pasta bowl, serving bowl, jug, teapot, butter dish, cup and saucer, mug and a twelve-piece dinner set, most of it in this cream and clay painting, with the mugs also made in grey and in sand.

Frequently Asked

How many come in a set?

Two.

Are they dishwasher safe?

Yes.

Are they food safe?

Yes.

How do I look after them?

Wash them after every use so they do not stain. Use a mild detergent and do not leave them to soak. Handle them carefully, because they chip if knocked.

Will the two cups match?

No. Each is painted by hand, so the bands fall in different places and the columns of dots differ in length from one cup to the next.
