Description

The Oso bench is a run of reclaimed teak slats, 220cm long and 45cm high, laid across a heavy timber rail and carried on two iron legs bent into a U at each end. The slats sit close with a narrow line between them, and each one keeps the colour it arrived with, so the top runs from weathered grey through to warm brown along its length. The iron is powder coated in black, which is a harder finish than paint.

At 220cm the bench runs the length of a long table, and at 38cm front to back it is shallow enough to push right under one and out of the way. It is made for a garden, a courtyard or a terrace, and it wants ground level enough to keep both legs sitting flat. The Oso range runs to a dining table at the same 220cm length, and to a bench and a table in a shorter 180cm size.

The timber is reclaimed teak, which comes with cracks, splits and old marks in it. Those are what the wood brought with it rather than faults, and they mean no two benches are alike. Teak is a hardwood, so it does not need the regular preservative that a softwood does, and the iron legs are powder coated, which is what fits them to stand outside.

Frequently Asked

How long is it?

220cm, 38cm front to back, and 45cm to the top of the seat.

Can it be left outside?

Yes. Covering it or storing it over the winter season will prolong its life.

Why is the wood cracked and marked?

Because it is reclaimed teak. The cracks and the marks came with the timber and are part of the weathered look, and no two benches are the same.

Does it need treating?

Not to survive. Teak is a hardwood and does not need the regular preservative a softwood does. To hold its original appearance, a little teak oil or a water based wood stain will do it.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it down with a dry cloth every few months so moisture does not build up. To wash it, use a little washing up liquid, warm water and a soft bristle brush. A hose on spray will rinse it, but never a pressure washer, which strips the timber. Let it dry right through afterwards, which takes time, so choose a bright day.
