Description

The Noren S/85 is a pendant light built around one large, flat fabric disc, 85cm across, in a soft Light Grey. The disc includes a layer of sound-absorbing foam, so it does two jobs at once: it lights the room and it helps quieten the echo that hard surfaces bounce around. The light source is an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to buy or change. It gives a warm 3000K white with a CRI of 95, which keeps food, faces and fabrics looking true to colour. It comes in two light directions, Direct or Direct and indirect, and depending on the version it draws 14.4W or 21.4W and gives 296lm or 550lm.

We see it above a dining table or in a living room, anywhere a wide disc can hang at the height the space calls for. The drop runs from 135cm to 385cm, so it suits an ordinary ceiling and a taller, more open room alike. Its large fabric face is especially welcome where floors are wooden and walls are bare, and conversation tends to carry. It is dimmable through DALI, so with a compatible DALI control you can lower it for a quiet supper and raise it again for a busy family meal. It is rated IP20, which means it is for dry indoor rooms only.

Designed by Estudi Manel Molina, the disc is made from aluminium, MDF, sound-absorbing foam and a thermoplastic fabric, and it hangs on two fine cables from a canopy 56cm across. It runs on mains power at 277V DC and is a Class I fitting, wired in to the mains by a qualified electrician. Because the light is built in and the drop is generous, the main decision is placement: allow clear space around an 85cm disc and settle the drop with your table or seating in place.
