Description

The Nidra bedspread is cotton velvet on one face and plain linen on the other, 240 by 220cm. The velvet is a deep moss green, quilted in close rows of Kantha running stitch worked by hand, which pulls the pile into fine ridges across the full width. The linen reverse is left its own natural colour and carries the same stitching in a contrasting thread, so the quilt reads as two different things depending on which way up it lies.

At 240 by 220cm it is sized for a King or a Super King bed, and on a Super King it is meant to be turned vertically, which gives it a longer drape. At 4.1kg it is a substantial top layer rather than a light throw, so it holds a fold across the end of a bed instead of sliding out of one. Either face can go uppermost: deep moss for the darker side of a room, natural linen for the paler.

The top is cotton velvet and the base is linen, put together so the quilt breathes as well as it covers. The Kantha stitching is sewn by hand in long running rows, which is why the lines wander a little and no two quilts pull up in quite the same way. The same bedspread is made in rust, charcoal, dusty pink, sage green and natural, and a 220 by 140cm size is made in moss, rust and charcoal.
