Description

The Nari is a compact ceiling light built around a slim cylinder: a tubular shade on a short arm off a round mounting plate, with a pivoting joint so you can angle the shade and put the light where you want it. It is an adjustable spotlight with a clean, modern outline, made on an iron structure in a gold finish. It comes in two sizes, 8cm and 16cm. The 8cm has a cylindrical shade 8cm long and 4cm across; the 16cm has a shade 16cm long and the same 4cm across. It takes one GU10 lamp, which is not included, so you can choose the brightness and colour that suit the room.

Because the head angles, this is a light for pointing rather than filling a room. We like it in a hallway or on a landing, turned towards a picture or a mirror; in a living room, picking out a shelf of books or a favourite chair; and in a bedroom or study, where a focused pool of light suits reading or working at a desk. A row of two or three along a ceiling gives a gallery feel, each head turned to its own subject. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only, and it is an on-off switched fitting, so it works from an ordinary light switch.

The structure is iron, finished in gold, which sits well with warm wood, pale walls and brass or gold details in the room. It runs on 220 to 240V mains and is for a qualified electrician to install, and it carries a 2 year guarantee. The 8cm keeps a low profile in smaller rooms and under lower ceilings, while the 16cm makes more of the cylinder shape in a larger space; choose a narrow-beam GU10 lamp to keep the light tight on its subject, or a wider beam to soften it.
