Description

A round tray in mango wood, 40cm across and 2.5cm high, with a low rim standing round the edge. The whole inner face is etched by hand: a sunburst at the centre, then rings of triangles, chevrons, dots and short strokes working outward to a plain band inside the rim. The cutting is shallow, and the marks read darker than the wood around them.

At 40cm the tray takes a teapot and two cups, or a carafe and glasses, and the rim is deep enough to hold a glass on when it is carried. It will just as well sit and stay put, gathering jars on a worktop or a candle and a vase on a side table.

The tray is mango wood. The pattern is cut by hand, so the spacing and the depth of the marks differ from tray to tray and the grain runs through them differently every time. The Namuna is also made in a large size, at 55cm across.
