Description

The Namira is a floor lamp base built as an arch. A flat round wooden foot takes a square section post that rises straight, then sweeps forward in a long curve and levels out into a short horizontal arm, with a brass fitting and the lampholder hanging beneath it. The wood is mango, left natural, and the pieces are joined along the length of the curve so the grain and the colour shift from one section to the next. It stands 153cm tall and the arm carries the lampholder 45cm forward of the foot.

The arch is what the shape is for. A straight floor lamp has to stand beside a chair; this one stands behind or to the side and brings the shade out over the seat, so the foot takes only 32cm of floor and the light still lands where someone is sitting. The shade hangs from the arm rather than sitting on a collar, so it faces down. It takes one E27 bulb up to 40W, the flex runs 3.5m with the switch on the cord, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms. The plug is UK fitting.

Mango is a fast growing hardwood and a by-product of fruit growing. Each arch is cut and joined by hand, so the curve and the joins differ from one to the next. At 3.88kg the weight is modest for the reach, so a heavy shade will pull on the arm. No shade and no bulb are included.

No, this is the base alone. The shade hangs from the end of the arm, so keep it light and keep its width under about 45cm so it does not swing back against the post.

A dry soft cloth. Mango wood can be fed with a natural oil such as olive or walnut on a cloth, which nourishes it but will darken the tone and has to be put back if it is washed off.
