Nagala Ribbed Glass Baubles - Merlot - Set of 4

A set of four glass baubles, each 8cm across, blown into an onion shape: a wide flattened shoulder under the cap, the fullest point about a third of the way down, and a soft point at the bottom. Ribs run from the cap to the point and turn a little as they go, so the light down each one bends rather than running straight. The glass is a deep merlot that goes almost black where the wall thickens and stays translucent across the shoulder. Each one carries an antiqued metal cap with a hanging ring, on a plain tan ribbon knotted at the top.

The four hang along a branch, spaced out rather than clustered. At 8cm across these sit as the larger decorations on a tree rather than as filler, and because the shape turns on its own axis it reads the same from whichever side it is seen. Four will take the front of a tree, a garland along a shelf, or a cut branch stood in a jug. The ribbon knots over the branch, so no hook is needed.

Every bauble is recycled glass. The glass is cleaned, crushed and melted, then blown by hand into a ribbed mould, so the ribs are formed in the glass rather than cut into it afterwards. Because each one is blown separately the ribs sit at slightly different depths and the merlot reads darker on some than on others, so the four in a set will not be identical. The ribbon is knotted rather than sewn.

Is the glass recycled?

Yes. It is cleaned, crushed and melted down before it is blown.

How should Christmas baubles be stored?

Take any built-up dust off with a dry, soft cloth, and handle them with care. Harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners will damage the finish. They are for indoor use only.
