Description

The Monkey Palm rug puts a hand-painted tropical scene underfoot: palm trees, hanging fruit and small monkeys picked out against a soft papyrus ground. It is a printed polyester rug in a single size, 120 x 170cm, which is a generous fit for a seating area, a garden table or the space in front of a set of doors. The design is busy in the best way, with enough going on that it reads as a picture rather than a repeat, and the ground colour keeps it warm rather than loud.

This is an indoor and outdoor rug, so it earns its keep in more places than most. Put it on a patio or a decking area under a chair and a low table, roll it out in a garden room, or use it indoors in a kitchen, hallway or living room where a bit of pattern lifts a plain floor. Because it is polyester and rated for outdoor use, it copes with the traffic those spots see. It is light enough to move and pack away, so it comes with you for a picnic or a day on the beach and goes back down when you are home.

The rug is of woven construction, and polyester is a hard-wearing fibre that resists water and shrugs off a spill, which is why this style suits the garden as much as the hall. It is machine washable, so cleaning is a matter of putting it through a wash rather than scrubbing on your knees, and polyester dries quickly once it has had a soaking. Style it against timber decking or a plain floor where the green and pink of the print can do the talking.
