Description

The Merapi Lava is a 22cm aluminium vase with a dark bronze exterior, gold interior, and an irregular jagged rim that references volcanic rock formations. The rim edge is hand-formed to create peaks and valleys around the opening, giving each vase a slightly different profile and preventing two pieces from looking identical.

Designed for dry stem displays, single branches or as a sculptural object without flowers, the vase works on console tables, mantels, shelving and side tables in contemporary, industrial and eclectic interiors. The two-tone finish means the gold lining catches light when the vase is placed near windows or downlights, while the dark bronze outer shell anchors it visually in darker or richer-toned rooms. The aluminium construction gives the vase substantial presence at 1.3kg without the fragility of ceramic or glass.

The vase is not water-tight sealed and is not food-safe, so it is best used with dry materials or with stems placed in a separate internal vessel if water is required. The textured finish on the exterior shows subtle tonal variation across the surface, a result of the metal finishing process rather than a defect. Condensation and spillages should be wiped immediately to protect the surfaces beneath.
