Description
The Marjori is a freestanding shelving unit, 190cm tall and 100cm wide, built as a slim iron frame carrying six mango wood shelves. The uprights are square-section bar in a warm brass tone, and the six boards are set at even intervals from the lowest, which sits just clear of the floor, up to the top. There is no back panel and no sides, so the frame reads as an outline and daylight passes straight through it.
At 100cm across and 38cm deep, each shelf takes a full run of books, a row of storage jars or folded linen laid flat. Because the unit is open on every side it does not have to go against a wall: it will stand out into a room as a divider, with everything on it visible from both directions. Against a wall it holds books, ceramics and baskets.
The boards are mango wood and the frame is iron. Mango trees are cut for timber only once they have stopped bearing fruit, and the short growing cycle lets growers replant and take a second income from the wood. The Marjori is also made in a narrow width, 60cm across at the same height and depth.

Frequently Asked
How many shelves does it have?
Six, set at even intervals up the frame. The lowest sits just clear of the floor.
What are the overall dimensions?
190cm tall, 100cm wide and 38cm deep.
Is there a narrower version?
Yes. The Marjori is also made at 60cm wide, at the same 190cm height and 38cm depth.
How heavy is it?
38.4kg.
How do I look after the mango wood?
Wash it in warm soapy water, rinse it and dry it straight away. Mango is a tropical timber and central heating can dry it out, which may crack or warp it, so feed it now and then with an edible oil such as olive or walnut worked in with a soft cloth. The oil sits on the surface rather than soaking in, so it needs doing again after any wash, and it will darken the tone.
