Description

The Madrisana is a low chair with an acacia frame and a seat and back both woven in rattan. It has no arms. The back is a single rectangular panel raked well back, the seat is shallow and slopes down towards it, and the two sit in a frame whose back legs rake backwards and front legs forwards, so the chair stands on a wide splayed base. The rattan is worked in an open lattice across the back and in close parallel runs across the seat.

The seat sits 37cm from the floor, lower than a dining chair, and the rake of the back holds a reclined position rather than an upright one. At 82cm wide and 73cm deep it takes a corner, the foot of a bed or a place beside a window. The seat itself is 63cm wide and 43cm deep between the frame rails.

The frame is acacia and the seat and back are rattan. Acacia is a hard-wearing, water-resistant wood, and its grain and tone differ from chair to chair, so no two frames match. The natural colour of the wood will change over time, and faster where it stands in direct sunlight. The Madrisana is also made as a bar stool. No cushion is included.
