Description

This photo frame pairs a soft macrame rainbow with a little cloud plaque, ready to hold the first pictures of a new arrival. The frame is MDF with a brown wood-grain look and a distressed, vintage-style finish, marked with fine white lines and planked grooves. On the left, the rainbow is worked in arcs of coral, pink, soft yellow and blue-grey, finished with a cream fringe and hung from a small bead at the top. Beneath it sits a white cloud printed with the words Welcome to the World, with a tassel hanging from it. On the right, a white inner border surrounds an upright window that takes a 6 x 4in photograph.

We chose this one with a new baby in mind, and its printed welcome makes it a thoughtful gift for parents marking a little one's arrival. A newborn portrait or a snap of the first cuddle suits the window well. The gentle rainbow shades bring a soft splash of colour to a nursery, and because the look is cheerful rather than babyish, it carries on happily into a child's bedroom as the years go by, holding a favourite picture from each stage. It is a keepsake for the room rather than a plaything.

The frame measures 24.3cm along its longer side and 20.1cm along its shorter side, and it is 2.7cm deep, so it needs only a modest spot. The 6 x 4in window takes a standard print, so there is no trimming to do. For care, dust the frame with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from damp, and treat the macrame gently, easing the fringe back into place with your fingers if it gets flattened. As a gift, slip a favourite photograph in before you wrap it, so it is ready to enjoy the moment it is opened.
