Description

The LYYT 12V UV LED strip is a 5m reel of flexible LED tape carrying 60 SMD5050 LEDs per metre, emitting a bright violet light that makes fluorescent materials glow at close range. The strip runs on 12Vdc at 8.4W per metre and connects via locking DC5521 jacks at each end for power in and power out. A clear silicone coating provides IP65 splash and dust protection, and a self-adhesive backing fixes the strip to clean, dry surfaces.

Designed for UV effects at themed parties, club installations, retail displays and exhibition stands where blacklight-reactive materials need to fluoresce. The 5cm cutting intervals allow the strip to be trimmed to custom lengths at marked points along the reel without losing functionality. The 10.5mm width and 3mm thickness flex around corners and fit into shallow recesses, making the strip adaptable to architectural features, furniture edges and display cases.

Each metre draws 700mA at 12Vdc, meaning the full 5m reel requires a minimum 3.5A power supply (not included). The 140° beam angle spreads the violet light output across surfaces rather than concentrating it into a narrow beam. The strip is compatible with AVSL controllers 153.795UK and 153.793UK for dimming and sequencing effects. The violet wavelength sits at the visible edge of the UV spectrum, giving a visible purple glow that activates fluorescent pigments in white fabrics, paints and plastics at distances under 500mm.

What power supply is needed?

The full 5m reel requires a 12Vdc power supply rated at minimum 3.5A (42W). Shorter custom-cut lengths draw proportionally less current. Power supplies are sold separately.

Can the strip be cut to length?

Yes. Cutting points are marked every 5cm along the reel. Cut only at these marked points to maintain electrical continuity and avoid damaging the circuit.

Is the IP65 rating suitable for outdoor use?

IP65 protects against dust and water jets, making the strip suitable for sheltered outdoor locations such as under eaves, canopies or inside IP-rated enclosures. It is not submersible and should not be exposed to direct rain or standing water.

Does it produce true ultraviolet light?

The LEDs emit a bright violet visible light at the near-UV edge of the spectrum. This activates fluorescent materials at close range (under 500mm) but is not a substitute for true UV-A or UV-C germicidal lamps.
