The Lyam is a wall light on a long jointed arm, made entirely of iron and black from the wall plate to the rim of the shade. The shade is a rounded bell that narrows to a point where it meets the arm, and at 19.5cm tall it is compact against the generous reach of the arm. Overall the light is 80cm long, 17cm wide and 50cm tall, so it needs a clear stretch of wall. It takes an E27 bulb, up to a 5W LED, and the bulb is not included, so you will need one of your own.

It is rated IP20, so it belongs in dry rooms: a living room, a bedroom, a study or a hallway. Fixed beside a reading chair it takes the place of a floor lamp, beside a bed it leaves the bedside table free, and at the side of a desk it keeps the work surface clear. The 180cm black cable runs down from the foot of the wall plate, and the light has its own switch. Its plain, slender lines suit a pared-back room as readily as one full of books and texture, and it is a good choice for anyone who reads in the evening and wants the light where they sit.

A short upright post rises from the long wall plate, which has four fixing holes, and bends out into a level arm; the long arm carrying the shade passes through a joint at its end and runs on to a short cylindrical tip.
