Description

Liova is a children's chair with a backrest cut in the shape of a bear's head: a round face with two rounded ears, raised on a curved support behind a round seat. It is 40cm long, 30cm wide and 58cm tall, a size made for a child rather than an adult, and it weighs 2.22KG. The body is 70% MDF and 30% plywood under a painted, multicoloured finish, with the seat and the bear's head in one shade and the curved support and four bent legs in a contrasting one, so the friendly outline reads clearly from across the room.

We see it in a child's bedroom or playroom, pulled up to a low table for drawing, puzzles, building blocks or a stack of picture books. At 40cm long and 30cm wide it takes up little floor space, so it fits beside a bookcase, under a window or at the end of a bed without crowding the room. When nobody is sitting in it, it makes a cheerful perch for a favourite soft toy, and at 2.22KG it is easy for a grown-up to carry from one room to another. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a birthday or for a child moving into a new bedroom.

The chair combines two boards. MDF gives a smooth, even surface that takes paint well, and plywood is built from thin layers of wood bonded together, which makes it strong for its weight. The whole piece has a painted finish, and the shaping is part of its charm: each leg bends in a soft curve where it meets the seat, and the back support sweeps up behind the seat to carry the bear's head. For styling, let the multicoloured finish do the work against plain walls and a wooden floor, and add a low table and a basket of books to make a little reading spot of its own.
