The Lark cushion is made from four-layer muslin crinkle cotton, a construction that gives the fabric its light, airy feel and the gentle, slightly ribbed texture you can see across the face. It measures 45 x 45cm, the standard square that most cushion pads are sold to fit, and it comes in a warm pecan brown, a deep rust-toned shade that reads as earthy rather than bright. The face is plain, with no print to compete with the texture, so the crinkle in the cloth does the work.

This is a cushion for a relaxed, contemporary room rather than a formal one. It sits well on a sofa or an armchair, at the head of a bed, or in a window seat, and its plain warm tone pairs easily with neutral upholstery and other soft, muted shades. Because there is no busy pattern, you can layer several together or set one against a printed cushion without anything clashing. The pecan works with cream, sage and mustard, the other tones we photograph it alongside.

The design is reversible, so both faces are the same crinkle cotton and either can go outward, and there is a subtle knife-edged trim rather than a piped or flanged border, which keeps the outline clean and simple.
