Description

A dining chair with a square framed wooden base and leather at the back and the seat. The back is a single panel of leather stretched between the two uprights and stitched round a rolled edge, hung like a sling rather than fixed over a solid backrest. The seat is a separate padded leather cushion that drops into a wooden rail running on all four sides. The wood is stained a mid brown that lets the grain and the saw figure show through it, and the legs are straight and square, tapering slightly towards the floor.

The seat sits 50cm from the floor and is 44cm square, and the frame is 49cm wide and 55cm from front to back. The back rises to 78cm, so the top of it stands above a dining table rather than tucking under one. There are no arms, so chairs go side by side along a table without fouling each other. It takes up to 130kg.

The frame is mango wood and the back and seat are buffalo leather. The leather is chosen for its softness and goes on softening with use, and the creasing and grain marks are in it from the start. The chair is sold singly.

Wipe the surface gently with a soft dry or microfibre cloth about once a week, because dust settling into the pores shortens the life of the leather. Deal with spills at once using a dry cloth, and a slightly damp one for anything sticky, without scrubbing. Leather conditioner helps, tested first in a hidden area. Keep the chair out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, which cause fading, drying and cracking, and never use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
