Description

The Knightsbridge 2-gang surface box is a white polycarbonate mounting box designed to pair with Knightsbridge screwless and flat plate switches and sockets. At 32mm deep, the box provides enough cavity space for cable termination and back-of-plate clearance when a screwless or flat plate faceplate is fitted onto the front.

Surface boxes are used where chasing into the wall for a flush-mounted back box is impractical or prohibited — on solid walls, tiled surfaces, listed buildings, or temporary installations where surface wiring is run in conduit or trunking. The box mounts directly to the wall surface using the three fixing holes (one at the top, two at the base), and the faceplate then fixes to the front of the box using the same lugs and fixing points as a standard back box.

The white polycarbonate construction gives the box an IP20 rating for dry indoor use and a 25-year warranty. The outer dimensions of 152.5mm wide by 92.5mm high by 34mm projection from the wall match the standard 2-gang footprint, so any Knightsbridge 2-gang screwless or flat plate faceplate will align correctly with the fixing points and aperture.

Frequently Asked

What Knightsbridge faceplates are compatible?

This box accepts any Knightsbridge 2-gang screwless or flat plate faceplate. The fixing points and aperture dimensions match the standard 2-gang back box footprint, so switches, sockets and dimmers in those ranges fit directly.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. The IP20 rating means the box is suitable for dry indoor locations only. For outdoor or bathroom installations an IP-rated surface box and corresponding IP-rated faceplate are required.

Does it include an earth terminal?

No. The box does not have an integrated earth terminal. Earthing must be handled at the faceplate level or via a separate earth point in the cable run, depending on the specific installation and the requirements of the faceplate being fitted.

What is the internal depth for cable clearance?

The 32mm internal depth provides clearance for cable termination behind most 2-gang faceplates. When using screwless plates with a separate sub-frame, ensure the combined depth of the sub-frame and back-of-plate does not exceed the available cavity space.
