Our Kien stool is a simple, solid form: a seat and two closed sides in one continuous inverted U, wrapped all over in tightly twisted natural cord. It is made of acacia wood and plywood, and its legs are covered in natural water hyacinth, a plant fibre that gives the surface a ribbed texture you notice the moment you touch it. It measures 43cm long, 42cm wide and 45cm tall, and the maker gives a maximum load of 120KG, which makes it a proper stool for sitting on rather than a piece for display only.

With its closed sides and open front and back, it works as a side table as readily as a seat.
