Description

The Karura is a wall mounted unit with two shelves and a towel rail along the bottom. Both shelves are toughened glass, each set into a flat metal surround and carried on small triangular brackets. The frame is a pair of uprights that curve forward at the top into round wall plates, and the rail is fixed at the foot of the frame, standing forward of the wall and clear of the lower shelf.

It is made for a bathroom wall above a basin, and it takes bottles and jars on the upper shelf, a tumbler and a small pot on the lower one, and a hand towel over the rail. It wants a clear run of wall 62cm wide and 66cm tall, and it stands 16cm out, far enough for a towel on the rail to hang without touching the wall. The shelves are glass, so what sits on them can be seen from below as well as from above.

The frame is iron under an antique brass finish. The shelves are toughened glass, put through a thermal tempering process and chosen for their strength and for standing up to daily use. Four round plates take the wall fixings, two at the top of the uprights and two at the foot. The unit weighs 4.9kg.
